Baserria - Stylized Environment in UE5

This project was born from the idea of improving my technical and artistic skills in 3D environment creation in Unreal Engine 5, focusing on a stylized art direction inspired by Studio Ghibli.

With this in mind, I was really excited to create a small tribute to traditional Basque rural architecture by choosing the baserri (“basoko herria” in Basque, meaning “village of the forest”) as the main building. This allowed me to practice modular asset creation, develop my first trim sheet, work with tileable materials, create foliage based on native flora, include a few thematic props to add subtle storytelling, and explore lighting using Lumen.

In addition to drawing inspiration from the work of the great Hayao Miyazaki, I also researched projects by many talented artists, reading articles and following tutorials and courses such as “Stylized Castle Wall in ZBrush and Designer” by Shuchang Wang and “The Environment Artist's Survival Kit” by Stylized Station.

Thank you very much for taking a look!
